Freestylin started in December 2009 as a stand alone Soul and Jazz event following the success of  two of the most popular sessions at the Hilton Hotel Luxury Weekenders, namely Roger Williams Soulsorts and Tony Cooney`s Fro-Disia Jazz session of which Colin Curtis is an integral part.

The event is bi-monthly at this time and, in our opinion , it has one of the best venue locations - The Mark Addy on the banks of the River Irwell right in the heart of the city of Manchester (UK). At approximately 5pm the restaurant packs away the table and chairs the dinners use to reveal a full size dance floor fit for purposes. The dance floor comes right against the floor to ceiling windows only feet away from the River Irwell. As the sun dims the lights of the city reflect on the water creating a fantastic atmosphere. The low curved brick ceilings further enhance the atmosphere.
Add to this the wonderful blend of contemporary soul and Jazz vibes and you have a perfect quality recipe.
In less than a year Colin Curtis, Roger Williams and Tony Cooney have made this one of the UK`s most talked about venues with their progressive open minded attitude towards Soul & Jazz aimed directly to the dance floor. No mean feat for a Sunday night event.

On the Jazz front the music is a blend of quality Nu Jazz sourced from all over the world added to Dance Jazz classics, Jazz Funk & a heavy dose of Latin. The Soul blends the new and old to suit all tastes. In it`s first year many tunes have become almost instant classics and fill the floor with the loyal crowd of Freestylin regulars. Those who attend are not only from the North West UK but also those from the Midlands and Yorkshire areas.

....another Fantastic night of Top Tunage. As Roger said probably the best one yet, with loads of people travelling some distance to be there. I'm sure it was worth the trip. There's just something Very Special about this night, The Venue, The Music, The People, It's very hard to describe what makes it the night it is.
It's just a pleasure to be a regular Freestyler & long may it continue.

The Mark Addy, Stanley Street, Salford, Manchester. M3 5EJ

Since the above we have relocated twice in Manchester. The Mark Addy`s new management wished to return to a food only venue so, having e created a unique night, we started the search for our new home. The next several Freestylin`s were located at the main Cafe Rouge before moving once again to our new spiritual home at Matt & Phreds on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter, Manchester.
Matt & Phreds is widely known as one of Manchester foremost jazz clubs in the trendy cool part of the city. So on the Freestylin night the chairs and tables are pushed right aside and the wooden dance floor becomes our. The atmosphere is electric.

The DJ line up now consists of Colin Curtis, myself Teecee and the new soul specialist Paul Goldsmith who has replaced Roger Williams. Roger was one of the original DJ`s of Freestylin and after two and a half years of playing great music he decided to concentrate on other areas. For myself and others who danced and enjoyed his music we wish him the best for the future and he will be missed.

Paul hails from Bedfordshire in the south of England is an experienced Soul DJ both in clubs and on the radio with his Starpoint Radio programme Select Soul. Paul has been with Freestylin for a while now and is already packing the floor with his music. Bit late to welcome him cus` he`s already doing it. You can read an interviwe between Colin and Paul here Paul`s interview
